This rendition of our Classic Cape is a welcome addition to our portfolio, boasting new features and added living space for growing families. This particular design works well on wide and shallow building lots due to its lengthwise orientation.

The clean and simple detailing on the exterior is reminiscent of antique capes but modifications were made to suit modern conveniences making this design uniquely its own. The large center chimney, simple front entryway with transom and symmetrical window layout are all important characteristics of a well proportioned, early American cape. Most importantly, this plan accomplishes a significant size increase without sacrificing the character, coziness and human scale of the design.

Despite its compact appearance, this home has a large open floor plan with comfortably sized spaces. On the first level, the front entry door opens into an L-shaped space containing the living room with large fireplace, dining room and spacious kitchen with center island and pantry closets. The majority of this floor plan is free of partitions to encourage flowing interaction between those sharing the space. In contrast, we have included a separate office/study on the first floor to offer a quiet room for work, reading or reflection.

Also on the first floor is the spacious master suite with a large walk-in closet and cathedral ceiling. The gracious master bathroom with whirlpool and separate shower has an airy feeling with a liberal use of windows and optional high ceiling, which can be left open to the peak.

A connector branches left off the main house providing heated access to the carriage shed. By entering through the farmer’s porch, the ell contains a ¾ bathroom, mudroom entry area with closets and a separate laundry room. A heated stairway leads from the ell up into a large bonus room above the garage; perfect for a studio, office or exercise room. The second floor of this home offers a surprising amount of space. At the top of the stairs is a sizable landing which acts as a common sitting area and is lit by a large skylight. The three bedrooms on this level, all with large closets, share a spacious, full bath with dual vanity and skylight.
