This variation of the popular Deerfield Colonial offers several features that its original counterpart lacks. Most notably, the sideways orientation of the home is designed for shallow building lots that will not allow the standard front to back layout. In addition, the kitchen extends back from the main body of the home allowing for skylights above which flood the space with natural light. A large screened porch adds dimension to the rear elevation and helps connect the living room to the home’s natural surroundings. The symmetrical nine window front, large center chimney and modest front entryway with double doors and transom window make this two-storie colonial an impressive example of classic, mid 17th century architecture.
The first floor plan offers a large formal dining room and a living room with a fireplace which looks through glass doors out to the screened porch. A large open, informal kitchen with skylights and adjoined breakfast area with a second fireplace provides a warm and a functional gathering area. A small pantry and built-in desk provide additional storage and workspace. The kitchen flows into the gathering room with cathedral ceiling and a third fireplace. A mudroom area with 1⁄2 bath and storage space connects the main house to the 3 car carriage shed. The mudroom also contains a heated access to the stairway leading to optional space above the garage.
The second floor of the home contains a gracious master bedroom suite with two separate walk-in closets and a comfortable master bath. Two additional bedrooms, a shared full bathroom and laundry room round out the second level.
Optional living space for future expansion can be found on the third floor of the main house and the second floor above the carriage shed. The third floor is suitable for two comfortable bedrooms and an additional bathroom. The second floor of the carriage shed is a perfect space for an office, art studio or exercise room.
